  • 11–14 hours of total sleep daily
  • 1-2 naps per day, typically 1–3 hours in length
  • Consistent bedtime between 6:30 and 8:00 PM

Sample 12-18 Month Old Schedule (2 Naps)

In the early toddler years, your child will should be taking 2 naps per day. Typically toddlers drop from 2 naps to 1 at 14-18 months. Here is a sample sleep schedule you can follow. You can adjust wake up and bedtime to your family’s needs, just keep wake windows similar to the schedule below.

  • 7am: Wake up
  • 9am: Nap #1
  • 11am: Wake up from nap
  • 2pm: Nap #2
  • 3:30pm: Wake up from nap
  • 7:15 pm: Bedtime routine – bath, quiet play, put on pajamas, story, etc.
  • 7:45pm: Sleep

Sample 18+ Month Sleep Schedule (1 Nap)

At some point your toddler will transition from 2 naps to 1 nap per day. Most commonly your little one will be down to 1 nap per day by 18 months old, but some kids can take until 20 months to make this transition. Here is a sample sleep schedule for when your toddler goes to 1 nap.

  • 8am: Wake up
  • 1pm: Nap
  • 3:30pm: Wake up
  • 7:30 pm: Bedtime routine – bath, quiet play, put on pajamas, story, etc.

Here is a sample toddler sleep routine you can use daily. Personally, we did not do baths everyday and it was not necessarily part of our sleep routine. But some parents prefer to bathe their toddler every day and use it as part of their routine – it’s up to you.

  • 7:00 PM – Bath (optional)
  • 7:15 PM – Diaper change, pajamas, brush teeth
  • 7:25 PM – Books and cuddles
  • 7:35 PM – Lights out

1 – Wind Down Time

  • Turn off screens at least 1 hour before bed
