Do You Need 2 Baby Monitors for Twins?

You do not need 2 monitors, but you do need 2 cameras. There are baby monitors you can purchase that come with two cameras, or if necessary, you can buy an extra camera and set it up. With twins, it will be important to select a baby monitor that is capable of connecting to and viewing two different cameras.

Important Qualities in Baby Monitors for Twins

When choosing the best baby monitor for twins for your family, you need a device that ensures both safety and convenience. Here are the top qualities to look for.

  • Multiple Camera Support – The ability to connect two or more cameras to cover both cribs.
  • Split-Screen Viewing (optional) – Allows you to monitor both babies simultaneously on the same screen.
  • Night Vision – Essential for monitoring your twins in low-light or dark conditions.
  • Wide-Angle & Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) Features – Helps track movements in different areas of the nursery.
  • VOX (Voice-Activated Mode) – Alerts you when your babies make noise, saving battery when they are quiet.
  • Temperature Sensor – Helps ensure a comfortable and safe sleep environment for your twins.
  • Two-Way Audio – Lets you talk to and soothe your babies from another room.
  • Long Battery Life – Ensures the monitor stays active without frequent recharging.
  • Reliable Signal & Range – Strong connectivity, whether it’s Wi-Fi-based or non-Wi-Fi with an extended range.
  • Secure & Hack-Proof Connection – Non-Wi-Fi monitors provide better security, while encrypted Wi-Fi options enhance privacy.

Best Twin Baby Monitor With a Split Screen

My selection for the best split screen baby monitor that comes with two cameras is the VTech Advanced HQ Max Twin. This monitor checks almost all the boxes from the list of important qualities above. The only item missing is VOX (voice-activated mode). However, it does activate based on motion, so if your baby is crying AND moving around it will alert you.

In order to have optimal battery life, it’s important for the monitor screen to be off at night and only activate when your baby is making noise or moving. Overall, this monitor is perfect for twin parents, especially if you prefer a non-Wi-Fi monitor that has split screen capability.

Best Baby Monitor for Twins No Wi-Fi Needed

Here is another option that does not require Wi-Fi – making it more secure. This monitor does not offer a split screen option, but instead you can switch the view between the two cameras. If you prefer to have a larger view of each baby, then the HelloBaby HB6550 Baby Monitor with 2 cameras is for you. The first baby monitor we purchased was this type.

This monitor can actually handle up to 4 cameras, so if you have more children to watch (or will in the future) this is a great choice for you. This baby monitor checks all the boxes for the important qualities to look for in a baby monitor for twins. The biggest issue is the battery life of the monitor, which is a common problem with all baby monitors of this type.

Best Security Cameras for Twins Using App / Wi-Fi

You can buy the TP-Link Tapo Security Cameras as a 2-pack in white or black. These types of cameras connect using Wi-Fi through an app on your phone. The biggest advantage of using security cameras as your baby monitor is the price. This is a much cheaper option than a no Wi-Fi baby monitor with 2 cameras.

If you opt for these security cameras you will get all the important qualities listed above for baby monitoring for twins minus no Wi-Fi, temperature sensing, and split screen viewing. It’s up to you if you are okay using Wi-Fi and if you prefer to use your phone as a baby monitor.

Best Combo Baby Monitor for Twins (No Wi-Fi + App / Wi-Fi)

The ieGeek 2K Split-Screen Baby Monitor covers the best of both worlds! You can use a no-WiFi monitor at home, but when you are away from home you can still monitor your twins through your phone. This is great if you have a babysitter and just want to check on your babies after they have been put to bed. Or if you’re at work and just want to see your kids when they’re napping (if you have a nanny for your twins).

This is the only monitor on the list that checks all the important qualities in baby monitors for twins from our list. It’s also the most expensive (by just a little bit).

If you want it all – a monitor with split screen capabilities and an app on your phone then this is the product for you! We had a monitor like this when our kids were small and I liked the ability to check on my kids when I was away from home or even if I was outside doing yardwork while they napped.
